29 CFR 1926.202: Barricades for protection of employees did not conform to the portions of the American National Standards Institute D6.1-1971, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways, relating to barricades: a/ At the job site, on or about 05/23/13, specifically at the southbound and northbound lanes of Virginia Avenue, two, portable warning light barricades were placed by the Caterpillar 303C CR Backhoe. A single cone was positioned due east of the excavation in the southbound lane. A third, portable warning light barricade was positioned due south of the excavation. Employee(s) were installing a new water main in the excavation. The taper ratio of barricades for a residential, urban street width would require a minimum of eight traffic cones or the equivalent at each end of the work zone. the lack of cones or the equivalent provided motorists with little warning to steer clear of the work zone.
