29 CFR 1910.107(l)(4)(ii): Surfaces were not cleaned in such a manner as to avoid scattering dust to other places or creating dust clouds.   On or about 05/21/2013 5166 Performance Drive, Cumming, GA: When working surfaces, structural members and structural supports of the building 5166 were to be cleaned, the employees used compressed air, nylon/straw bristle brooms, and a Shop Vac to clean with. The employees were exposed to an explosive atmosphere from the dust cloud created during cleaning.

29 CFR 1910.178(c)(2)(vi)(a): The employer did not provide powered industrial trucks designated as EX for use in an atmosphere in which combustible dust is or may be in suspension continuously, intermittently, or periodically under normal operating conditions, in quantities sufficient to produce explosive or ignitable mixtures, or where mechanical failure or abnormal operation of machinery or equipment might cause such mixtures to be produced.   On or about May 21, 2013 at 5166 Performance Drive, Cumming GA: Employees operating the Yale forklift were exposed to an explosive hazard when the forklifts used were not designated for use in atmospheres in which combustible dust is present.

On or about May 21, 2013 at 5166 Performance Drive, Cumming GA: The employees were exposed to an embolism hazard when they used a pistol type air gun that did not have an effective chip guard. The compressor registered 100 p.s.i. and employees used the compressed air for cleaning off tools, work surfaces, and themselves.
