29 CFR 1926.652(g)(1)(ii): Shields were not installed in a manner to restrict lateral or other hazardous movement of the shield in the event of the application of sudden lateral loads. Jobsite: adjacent to General Contractor's trailer The trench had not been backfilled so that it was "tight" against the trench box. The gap between the trench box and the trench could have resulted in lateral movement of the trench box during a cave-in.

Jobsite: trench adjacent to General Contractor's trailer A large gap between the trench box and the trench side wall exposed an employee to a cave-in hazard when he accessed the trench box using a ladder.
