29 CFR 1910.266(h)(2)(v): An undercut was not made in each tree being felled, the undercut was not of a size so the tree would not split and would fall in the intended direction: a) On or before June 5, 2013, and at time prior thereto, employees were exposed to the danger of falling trees in the Upper Dry Buck Timber sale without using an undercut large enough to prevent the tree from splitting or not falling in the intended direction. Note: Abatement certification IS required for this item.

29 CFR 1910.266(h)(2)(vi): A backcut was not made in each tree being felled leaving sufficient hinge wood to hold the tree to the stump during most of its fall so that the hinge is able to guide the tree's fall in the intended direction: a) On or before June 5, 2013, and at times prior thereto, employees were exposed to the danger of falling trees in the Upper Dry Buck Timber Sale without utilizing a backcut that provided sufficient hinge wood to hold the tree during most of the fall and able to guide the tree in the intended direction. Note: Abatement certification IS required.
