29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were not provided within the work area for immediate emergency use: Stranaska LLC at 4025 Automation Way Unit A1, Fort Collins, CO 80525: On and before 5/31/13, the employer did not ensure that where employees were exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body were provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. An emergency eyewash was not located in the laboratory where acetic acids were used. This condition exposed employees to a chemical burn hazard. 29 CFR 1910.1450(e)(1): Where hazardous chemicals were used in the workplace, the employer did not develop and carry out the provisions of a written Chemical Hygiene Plan which was capable of protecting employees from health hazards associated with hazardous chemicals and which was capable of keeping exposures below the limits specified in 29 CFR 1910 1450(c): a) Stranaska LLC at 4025 Automation Way Unit A1, Fort Collins, CO 80525: On and before 5/31/13, the employer did not develop and carry out the provisions of a written Chemical Hygiene Plan which was capable of protecting employees from health hazards associated with hazardous chemicals. One employee used hazardous chemicals, such as toluene, hexane, perchlorate acids, nickel nitrate, potassium chloride, potassium dichromate, and holmium oxide in the laboratory performing quality assurance tests. The employer did not develop a written Chemical Hygiene Plan. This condition exposed one employee to a chemical hazard. Abatement note: The written program shall include at least the following: (1) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); prudent laboratory practices when working with chemicals in a laboratory; (2) Criteria used by the employer to reduce worker exposure to hazardous chemicals; (3) Adequacy and proper functioning of fume hoods and other protective equipment; (4) The employer must provide information and training; (5) Requirement of prior approval of laboratory procedures; (6) Provisions for medical consultation and examination when exposure to a hazardous chemical has or may have taken place; (7) Chemical hygiene officer designation; (8) Outlines additional worker protections for work with particularly hazardous substances.
