One employee used hazardous chemicals, such as toluene, hexane, perchlorate acids, nickel nitrate, potassium chloride, potassium dichromate, and holmium oxide in the laboratory performing quality assurance tests.  The employer did not develop a written Chemical Hygiene Plan.  This condition exposed one employee to a chemical hazard.   Abatement note: The written program shall include at least the following:  (1)       Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); prudent laboratory practices when working with chemicals in a laboratory;  (2)       Criteria used by the employer to reduce worker exposure to hazardous chemicals;  (3)       Adequacy and proper functioning of fume hoods and other protective equipment;  (4)       The employer must provide information and training;  (5)       Requirement of prior approval of laboratory procedures;  (6)       Provisions for medical consultation and examination when exposure to a hazardous chemical has or may have taken place;  (7)       Chemical hygiene officer designation;  (8)       Outlines additional worker protections for work with particularly hazardous substances.
