29 CFR 1910.1025(h)(1): All surfaces were not maintained as free as practicable of accumulations of lead: The Remington Arms Co., Inc. was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.1025(h)(1) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 314352329, citation number 1, item number 7a and was affirmed as a final order on October 15, 2012, with respect to a workplace located at 14 Hoefler Avenue, Ilion, New York. On or about June 25, 2013, at Remington Arms Co., Inc., the employer did not ensure employees processing lead were not exposed to contaminated surfaces. Instance a) On or about June 25, 2013, at the showers throughout the facility, the employer did not ensure employees were not exposed to lead contaminated surfaces while showering. Lead screening using LeadCheck Swab tips on shower thresholds, floors and walls indicated a hazardous level of lead present. This created a condition for employees to be exposed to inhalation ingestion hazards associated with airborne or accumulative lead dust on surfaces. Instance b) On or about June 25, 2013, at the center fire lead "extruder" area, the employer did not ensure employees were not exposed to lead contaminated surfaces while processing lead from solid to liquid to wire rope and cutting and scraping meltdown pot. Laboratory results indicated a lead concentration ranging from 0.0324 milligrams per cubic meter to 0.3135 milligrams per cubic meter for personal air samples collected in the work area. Lead screening using LeadCheck Swab tips on floor area and stair railing at and around the extruder machinery indicated a hazardous level of lead present. This created a condition for employees to be exposed to inhalation ingestion hazards associated with airborne or accumulative lead dust on surfaces.
