29 CFR 1910.1025(c)(1): The employer did not assure that no employee is exposed to lead at concentrations greater than fifty micrograms per cubic meter of air (50 ug/m(3)) averaged over an 8-hour period. a) Scrap handling area/Sorting/Charging Area; on or about September 25, 2013, a scrap handler/sorter was exposed to airborne levels of lead at 0.0669 milligrams per cubic meter for an 8-hr time-weighted average while sorting scrap metal that contained pure lead. This level is 1.3 times the OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.050 milligrams per cubic meter. Sampling was performed on September 25, 2013 during normal work shift for a period of 357 minutes. Zero exposure is assumed for the remaining 123 minutes. Excessive exposure to airborne levels of lead results in inhalation hazards. b) Pipe press crew ground; on or about September 25, 2013, a pipe press crew ground worker was exposed to airborne levels of lead at 0.0530 milligrams per cubic meter for an 8-hr time-weighted average while filling a molten pot with lead that was melted approximately 800 degrees, poured and extruded. This level is 1.06 times the OSHA permissible exposure limit (PEL) of 0.050 milligrams per cubic meter. Sampling was performed on September 25, 2013 during normal work shift for a period of 355 minutes. Zero exposure is assumed for the remaining 125 minutes. Excessive exposure to airborne levels of lead results in inhalation hazards.
