29 CFR 1910.132(a): Application. Protective equipment, including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head, and extremities, protective clothing, respiratory devices, and protective shields and barriers, shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition wherever it is necessary by reason of hazards of processes or environment, chemical hazards, radiological hazards, or mechanical irritants encountered in a manner capable of causing injury or impairment in the function of any part of the body through absorption, inhalation or physical contact. a. Chemical Storage Area/Maintenance Area - On or about August 20, 2013, the employer had not provided employees who work with corrosive substances ( potassium hydroxide and sodium metasilicate) appropriate hand protection. Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards of hazardous chemicals.

29 CFR 1910.151(c): Where the eyes or body of any person may be exposed to injurious corrosive materials, suitable facilities for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes and body shall be provided within the work area for immediate emergency use. [63 FR 33450, June 18, 1998] a. Chemical Storage Area/Next to Maintenance Area - On or about August 20, 2013, the employer had not provided employee(s) who work with corrosive substances (such as potassium hydroxide) with an emergency eye wash station for quick drenching or flushing of the eyes. Employees were thereby exposed to the hazards of hazardous chemicals.
