29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: (a) Machining Area: Employees use an Accord Metal Lathe, no s/n, to machine and polish various pieces of fabricated materials. The employees hand was demonstrated to be at a distance of 4-8 inches from the unguarded rotating chuck, as determined on or about 11/14/2013. (b) Machining Area: Employees use a two inch wide strip of sanding paper to polish the fabricated rotating part on an Accord Metal Lathe, no s/n. The employees hand was demonstrated to be at a distance of 3-4 inches from the rotating fabricated part, as determined on or about 11/14/2013. (c) Machining Area: Employees use a Sharp Metal Lathe, model 1760K s/n 73500, to machine and polish various pieces of fabricated materials. The employees hand was demonstrated to be at a distance of 3-4 inches from the unguarded rotating chuck, as determined on or about 11/14/2013. (d) Machining Area: Employees use a two inch wide strip of sanding paper to polish the fabricated rotating part on a Mazak CNC Lathe. The employees hand was demonstrated to be at a distance of 7-8 inches from the rotating fabricated part, as determined on or about 11/14/2013. (e) Machining Area: Employees use a Lagun Republic Drill Press, no s/n, to drill holes in the fabricated metal products. The employees hand was demonstrated to be at a distance of 6-8 inches from the unguarded rotating chuck, as determined on or about 11/14/2013.
