29 CFR 1910.138(a): Employers shall select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands are exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasions; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. (a) Bedding Department: Employees did not wear hand protection against thermal hazards posed by the heat seal bars of the Gribetz International Wrapper. An employee accessing the index cards in the back of the wrapper would be close to the heat bar which can reach temperatures up to approximately 330 degrees Fahrenheit. Abatement certification is required for this item; use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.

29 CFR 1910.147(c)(4)(ii): The energy control procedures did not clearly and specifically outline the scope, purpose, authorization, rules, and techniques to be utilized for the control of hazardous energy, including, but not limited to Items of this section: (a) The specific energy control procedure for the Gribetz International Wrapper was not adequate. The LOTO procedure did not identify hazardous energy sources such as pneumatic, gravity (stored energy source) and thermal energy. The specific procedure did not address techniques to control these additional energy sources. Lockout Tagout authorized personnel were exposed to potential uncontrolled energy releases. Abatement certification is required for this item; use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.
