Firewood Processor - Employees were not protected from amputation hazards when point of operation where the ram and blades of the log splitter portion of the processor were not guarded and employees were assigned to clear log jams by hand. b. Firewood Processor - Employees assigned to clear log jams were not protected from amputation hazards when the point of operation where the saw blade contacted the logs was left unguarded and located approximately 1-2 feet from the laborers work platform.

29 CFR 1910.219(c)(4)(i): Unguarded projecting shaft end(s) did not present a smooth edge and end and projected more than one half the diameter of the shaft: a. Firewood Processor - Employees were not protected from a rotating shaft end which projected 3 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter outward from the log conveyor near where employees would stand to clear log jams. b. Firewood Processor - Employees were not protected from a rotating shaft end which projected 4 and 3/8 inches in length and 1 and 3/8 inches in diameter outward from the upper log conveyor near where employees would stand to clear log jams.
