29 CFR 1910.23(c)(1): Open sided floor(s) or platform(s) 4 feet or more above the adjacent floor or ground level were not guarded by standard railings (or the equivalent as specified in 29 CFR 1910.23(e)(3)(i) through (v)), on all open sides: (a)Ranch-Way Inc. at 416 Linden St., Fort Collins, CO 80524: The walkway behind the dryer to the crib area tunnel was not properly guarded in that the walkway was 18 inches wide with a 9 inch gap between the walkway and the guardrail. This condition exposed the employee to a fall hazard of 5 feet 9 inches.

29 CFR 1910.272(j)(1): The employer did not develop and implement a written housekeeping program that establishes the frequency and method(s) determined best to reduce accumulations of fugitive grain dust on ledges, floors, equipment, and other exposed surfaces: (a)Ranch-Way Inc. at 416 Linden St,. Fort Collins, CO 80524: The employer did not fully implement the housekeeping program in that fugitive dust had accumulated in the high side of the facility. The dust appeared to be accumulated to at least 1/4 inch thick in several areas. Abatement Note: The use of compressed air to blow dust from ledges, walls, and other areas shall only be permitted when all machinery that presents an ignition source in the area is shut-down, and all other know potential ignition sources in the area are removed or controlled. Vacuuming, with a sealed motor and intrinsically safe vacuum, is the preferred method of dust removal.
