This violation occurred on or about February 3, 2014, in the Shop area where employees were exposed to electrical hazards while operating a light switch without a cover.  Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that light switches are covered with approved covers or other forms of approved enclosures to guard against accidental contact to electrical hazards.

29 CFR 1910.243(c)(3): Abrasive wheels used on vertical portable grinder(s) (right angle head grinders) were not provided with safety guard(s) having a maximum exposure angle of 180 degrees and located between the operator and wheel.  The employer does not ensure that all angle grinders are equipped with guards. This violation occurred on or about February 3, 2014, in the main area of the shop, located in center of the building when an employee was exposed to struck-by hazards while using a Makita brand (Model GA7021) 7 inch angle grinder without a guard.     Coastal Hydraulic Cranes was previously cited for a violation of this occupational safety and health standard or its equivalent standard 29 CFR 1910.243(c)(3), which was contained in OSHA inspection number 949007, citation number 1 item number 8 and was affirmed as a final order on December 24, 2013, with a final abatement date of December 18, 2013, with respect to a workplace located at 11500 N Houston Rosslyn Rd, Houston, TX, 77088.  Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that all portable powered tools are equipped with the required guards.
