29 CFR 1910.37(a)(2): Exit routes were not arranged so that employees will not have to travel toward a high hazard area: a) Custom Kitchens, Inc., 3014 W. 12th St. in Erie, PA, area next to exit door on west side of building. On or about February 11, 2014, the exit route required employees to travel through a higher hazard area in that a 55-gallon drum of Synthesolv Blend solvent was stored on one side of the exit door and a 30-gallon flammable storage cabinet was positioned on the same wall and adjacent to the exit door.

29 CFR 1910.242(a): The employer was not responsible for the safe condition of tools and equipment used by employees, including tools and equipment which may be furnished by employees: a) Custom Kitchens, Inc., 3014 W. 12th St. in Erie, PA, countertop/carpentry work area. On or about February 11, 2014, handheld power and portable tools, including but not limited to a DeWalt electrical drill and a Porter Cable belt sander, were not maintained in safe condition in that the casings were cracked and dented and flexible cords were damaged.

29 CFR 1910.334(a)(2)(ii): When there was a defect or evidence of damage that might expose an employee to injury, the defective or damaged item was not removed from service, and employees used it before repairs and tests necessary to render the equipment safe were made. a) Custom Kitchens, Inc., 3014 W. 12th St. in Erie, PA, countertop/carpentry work area. On or about February 11, 2014, flexible cords of the handheld power and portable tools such as, but not limited to, a DeWalt power drill and a Porter Cable belt sander, were damaged, exposing the inner wires of the cords and pulling at the strain-relief.
