29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1) Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems. A. The Lathrop Company, Inc. worksite located at 500 Jefferson St., Toledo, Ohio: On or about February 11, 2014, the employer did not ensure employees were protected from fall hazards while clearing ice/snow from the downspouts on the commercial structure. An employee walked approximately 128.00 feet from the roof access point to secure fall protection. The employee was exposed to a fall distance of approximately 10'11" while using retractable fall protection and working approximately 30.00 feet from the anchorage point.
