29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems.  On or about February 20, 2014, at 5141 Dixie Hwy, Fairfield, a Waffle House under renovation, an employee was exposed to a 10 ft. fall hazard while standing on top of an outdoor cooler painting the exterior building without utilizing any fall protection.

29 CFR 1926.503(a)(1): The employer shall provide a training program for each employee who might be exposed to fall hazards. The program shall enable each employee to recognize the hazards of falling and shall train each employee in the procedures to be followed in order to minimize these hazards.  An employee who was exposed to a fall hazard on an unprotected side and edge had not received training on the recognition of the fall hazard and in the procedures to minimize those hazards

29 CFR 1926.1053(b)(4): Ladders shall be used only for the purpose for which they were designed.  On or about February 20, 2014, at 5141 Dixie Hwy, Fairfield, at a Waffle House renovation, an employee was exposed to a fall hazard while painting the exterior of the building on a 6 ft. fiberglass step ladder in the closed position, leaning up against the building.
