29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): "Unprotected sides and edges." Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: (a) On February 20, 2014, at a Job site located at 4423 NE Park Springs Ct, Lees Summit, MO., The Controlling Employer (Graham Homes, LLC) did not ensure that the employees of C & C Construction were protected from serious injuries, in that the workers were exposed to fall hazards created by unprotected sides and edges of floors and the lack of guardrails on the stairs leading to the upper floor work areas. As a result the employees were exposed to fall hazards of approx. 8 feet 7 inches from the top plates, and 10 feet from the top of the stairs and the adjacent floor area. Abatement certification for this violation is not required.
