29 CFR 1910.303(b)(2): Listed or labeled electrical equipment was not used or installed in accordance with instructions included in the listing or labeling: (a) Building 8, 2nd Floor, NE cubicle by rear exit; A blue extension cord was plugged into a relocatable power tap, which powered low amperage computer equipment. The UL listing states that relocatable power taps are designed to be plugged into an outlet, and not daisy chained and plugged into other relocatable power taps or extension cords. This exposes employees to possible electrical fire hazards. (b) Building 8, 1st Floor Shop; A Kenmore microwave and Oster toaster were plugged into a relocatable power tap. The UL listing states that relocatable power taps are designed for low amperage computer and audiovisual types of equipment, and not appliances. This exposes employees to possible electrical fire hazards. (c) Building 8, 1st Floor Shop; An orange extension cord was run up a wall through a hole, which powers a repeater that enables cell phone coverage. According to the extension cords UL listing and labeling: they should not be used as a substitution for permanent wiring. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was previously cited for a violation of this standard which was contained in OSHA inspection no. 906829 citation 2, item 4, issued on June 4, 2013 with respect to a workplace at Pasco, Washington. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was previously cited for a violation of this standard which was contained in OSHA inspection no. 915685 citation 1, item 1, issued on July 26, 2013 with respect to a workplace at Long Beach, California. 29 CFR 1910.37(b)(4): Signs were not posted along the exit access indicating the direction of travel to the nearest exit and exit discharge when the direction of travel to the exit or exit discharge was not immediately apparent: a) Building 8, Encop Shop; The shop had two doors and the door which lead to the nearest exit corridor did not have an exit sign.
