Worksite located at 9550 Polo Drive, Kansas City, Missouri- Employee was observed using a body belt as a means of fall protection with the use of a 6 foot lanyard. OSHA has prohibited the use of a body belt as a means of fall protection since 1998.

29 CFR 1926.502(d)(21): Personal fall arrest systems were not inspected prior to each use for wear, damage, and other deterioration, and/or defective components were not removed from service: (a). Worksite located at 9550 Polo Drive, Kansas City, Missouri- Employees that were exposed to fall hazards had not inspected their equipment prior to use for damage and deterioration. The employees lanyards that were used while in the aerial lift were coated with paint and stucco materials and the manufacturer could not be determined. Had the employer required to employees to inspect equipment, employees should have known to take equipment out of service. A proper inspection would have also determined that the employee was using improper equipment (body belt) as a means of fall protection.
