29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a) Packaging, 3 Earl Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA - Employees clean heated seal bars (temperature ranges between 450°F and 500°F) and change teflon tape on thirty (30) bag sealing machines without hand protection. Employees were exposed to thermal burns, on or before March 12, 2014. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation.

29 CFR 1910.132(d)(2): The employer did not verify that the required workplace hazard assessment has been performed through a written certification which included the requirements as outlined in 29 CFR 1910.132(d)(2): a) Packaging, 3 Earl Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA - Employees clean heated seal bars (temperature ranges between 450°F and 500°F) and change teflon tape on thirty (30) bag sealing machines without hand protection. Adequate personal protective equipment (gloves or other types of hand protection) was not required to be used by employees. The employer did not maintain the documentation for the hazard assessment conducted in the workplace. The hands of employees were exposed to thermal burns, on or about March 12, 2014. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation.
