29 CFR 1926.651(i)(3): Sidewalks, pavements and/or appurtenant structure were undermined and a support system or another method of protection was not provided to protect employees from the possible collapse of such structures. a) On or about March 11, 2014, Residential Construction Site at 1509 7th Street in Boise, Idaho: An unsupported piece of concrete foundation in the southeast corner of an approximate 100 year old residential site was undermined while a basement excavation ranging from 7 to 8 feet in depth was created. Employees of Construction Unlimited were exposed to the hazard of working underneath this piece of concrete while installating concrete formwork at the southeast corner of the excavation. Abatement certification is required for this item.

29 CFR 1926.651(k)(1): Daily inspections of excavations, the adjacent areas, and protective systems was not made by a competent person for evidence of a situation that could result in possible cave-ins, indications of failure of protective systems, hazardous atmospheres, or other hazardous conditions. An inspection was not conducted by the competent person prior to the start of work and as needed throughout the shift. a) On or about March 11, 2014, Residential Construction Site at 1509 7th Street in Boise, Idaho: Employees were working in a basement excavation ranging from 7 to 8 feet in depth. Employees of Construction Unlimited were exposed to the hazard of working on this site without having a competent person in trenching and excavation inspect the site prior to the commencement of work, and as needed throughout work shifts. Abatement certification is required for this item.
