OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to :     a) On or about 03/17/14 in Can Line; employer failed to protect employees from exposure to ammonia vapors during a hot sanitation cleaning of the can line when the unlabeled valve on the vapor return line, from the Canning Carbo Cooler surge drum to the receiver, was not opened.  This produced a pressure build up in the Canning Cooler ammonia surge drum which resulted in the opening of the relief valve and caused ammonia vapors to relieve through the vent line.  The vent line terminated inside the warehouse where employees were working.  Eventually ammonia vapors were present throughout the facility resulting in a total evacuation. 29 CFR 1910.36(g)(1): Ceiling of an exit route was not at least seven feet six inches.  Any projection from the ceiling must not reach a point less than six feet eight inches from the floor.     a) On or about 03/17/14 in the canning line work area; employer failed to protect employees from striking the lid channel on the can line which was at a height of 61 inches from deck of the work platform.
