29 CFR 1926.651(h)(1): Employees were working in excavations in which there was accumulated water, or excavations in which water was accumulating, and adequate precautions had not been taken to protect employees against the hazards posed by water accumulation. At a jobsite in North Aurora, Illinois, an employee working in a trench approximately 8.5 feet below grade which water was freely seeping and not controlled, thereby exposing the employee to the hazards associated with a cave in. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
