29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9):  The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch:                                                                                      (a)  Mechanic Shop:  Employees operated a DeWalt DW758 8 inch (serial #4Z-YLZ8851) abrasive bench grinder that had a maximum opening of 1/2 of an inch between the grinding wheel and the tongue guard, as determined on March 21, 2014.

29 CFR 1910.1200(g)(8):   The employer did not maintain in the workplace copies of the required safety data sheets for each hazardous chemical, and did not ensure that they were readily accessible during each work  shift to employees when they were in their work area(s):    (a)  Mechanic  Shop:  Employees use products such as 15W-40 diesel engine oil, brake parts cleaner, and penetrating oil, which contains but not limited to petroleum distillates, toluene, methanol, and aliphatic hydrocarbons. The employer did not maintain copies of the safety data sheets for the products, as determined on March 21, 2014.    Abatement Note:  Electronic access and other alternatives to maintaining paper copies of the safety data sheets are permitted as long as no barriers to immediate employee access in each workplace are created by such options.   Abatement Certification Required for this Item.

The employer did not provide employees with training and information on the location and availability of the written hazard communication program, and location of the safety data sheets, as determined on March 21, 2014. 29 CFR 1910.1200(h)(3)(iv):   The details of the hazard communication program developed by the employer, did not include an explanation of the labels received on shipped containers and the workplace labeling system used by their employer; the safety data sheet, including the order of information and how employee could obtain and use the appropriate hazard information:   (a)  Mechanic Shop:  Employees use products such as 15W-40 diesel engine oil, brake parts cleaner, and penetrating oil, which contains but not limited to petroleum distillates, toluene, methanol, and aliphatic hydrocarbons.  The employer has not provided employees with information and training on the new label elements (pictograms and signal words) and the new safety data sheet format as required per 29 CFR 1910.1200(j)(1), as determined on March 21, 2014.
