Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards, in that an abrasive wheel bench grinder was observed in the repair shop with an opening of one quarter inch between the work rest and the wheel. 29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch: (a) On or about March 27, 2014, and at times prior, Waste Connections of Colorado, Inc. did not ensure that adjustable tongue guards on grinding machinery was adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one quarter inch. Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards, in that an abrasive wheel bench grinder was observed in the repair shop with an opening of three quarter inch between the tongue guard and the wheel.
