29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: a) North, maintenance shop, JET metal cutting horizontal band saw: on or about April 9, 2014, employees cutting steel and stainless steel pieces for fabrication and repair tasks were exposed to amputation hazards where the unused portion of the blade was not guarded as required during operating cycle. b) North, maintenance shop North, Swivel metal cutting vertical band saw: on or about April 9, 2014, employees cutting metal and plastic pieces for fabrication and repair tasks were exposed to amputation hazards where the unused portion of the blade was not guarded as required during operating cycle. c) Southeast, truck shop, Shop Fox metal cutting horizontal band saw: on or about April 9, 2014, employees cutting steel and stainless steel pieces for fabrication and repair tasks were exposed to amputation hazards where the unused portion of the blade was not guarded as required during operating cycle. Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with the requirements of 29 CFR 1903.19(d).
