29 CFR 1910.305(a)(2)(i): Temporary electrical power and lighting installations of 600 volts, nominal, or less may be used only as for: (A) remodeling, maintenance, or repair(B) for a period not to exceed 90 days for Christmas decorative lighting; and (C) for experimental or development work, and during emergencies. (a)Appliance Factory Outlet at 445 W. 53rd Place, Denver, CO 80216: On or before April 11th, 2014, the employer was using temporary light strands to provide permanent lighting for areas located within the reconditioning shop. The employer was also utilizing relocatable power taps to provide electrical power in lieu of permanent fixed electrical installations. The conditions exposed employees to electrical shock and fire hazards. The employer provided temporary power and lighting installations in the following instances: 1) A yellow flexible cord providing temporary lighting strand was connected to a multi-tap outlet under the sink in the reconditioning area, and was strung around the reconditioning area for lighting; 2) A singular light with a steel shield was connected to a relocatable power tap under the sink in the reconditioning area, and was set within 10 inches of a sink; 3) An extension cord was connected to a relocatable power tap under the sink in the reconditioning area, and provided power to another relocatable power tap on a work bench; and 4) A relocatable power tap with an flexible cord was run through a hole in the wall to provide power the equipment listed above.
