29 CFR 1926.651(i)(3): Sidewalks, pavements and appurtenant structure shall not be undermined unless a support system or another method of protection is provided to protect employees from the possible collapse of such structures: a. On or about May 1, 2014, at the above addressed jobsite, an employee working in the trench excavation, which had undercut the roadway above, was exposed to being struck by the concrete roadway pavement while working beneath the undercut area.

29 CFR 1926.652(a)(1): Each employee in an excavation shall be protected from cave-ins by an adequate protective system designed in accordance with paragraph (b) or (c) of this section: a. On or about May 1, 2014, at the above addressed jobsite, an employee working in the 7.7 feet deep trench excavation was exposed to the hazard of trench wall collapse due to the lack of sloping, shielding, benching or shoring.
