29 CFR 1910.212(a)(1): One or more methods of machine guarding was not provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips and sparks: On or about May 15, 2014, and at times prior thereto, employees were allowed to operate machines that were found not having guards provided, including but not limited to the following instances: 1) At the CNC lathe area, a CNC lathe was being operated without an interlock device provided that would shut the machine down when the door opened. . 2) At the band saw area, a band saw was being operated without a blade guard properly installed to the cover the whole unused portion of the blade. The employees were exposed to the point of operation and possible amputation hazards.

29 CFR 1910.242(b): Compressed air used for cleaning purposes was not reduced to less than 30 p.s.i.: On or about May 15, 2014, and at times prior thereto, in CNC machine shop areas employees were allowed to use compressed air nozzles for cleaning purpose that were not the type that would reduce the pressure to below 30 p.s.i. The employees were exposed to skin and eye injury.
