29 CFR 1910.107(b)(5)(i): The spraying operations except electrostatic spraying operations shall be so designed, installed and maintained that the average air velocity over the open face of the booth (or booth cross section during spraying operations) shall be not less than 100 linear feet per minute. Electrostatic spraying operations may be conducted with an air velocity over the open face of the booth of not less than 60 linear feet per minute, or more, depending on the volume of the finishing material being applied and its flammability and explosion characteristics. Visible gauges or audible alarm or pressure activated devices shall be installed to indicate or insure that the required air velocity is maintained. Filter rolls shall be inspected to insure proper replacement of filter media.    WORKSHOP:  The spray paint/room had the following deficiencies:    1.    The air velocity over the open face was less than 100 linear feet per minute.  2.    It was not equipped with a visible gauge, audible alarm or pressure activated device for air velocity.                      ABATED DURING THE INSPECTION.

29 CFR 1910.134(h)(2)(i): All respirators shall be stored to protect them from damage, contamination, dust, sunlight, extreme temperatures, excessive moisture, and damaging chemicals, and they shall be packed or stored to prevent deformation of the facepiece and exhalation valve.    WORKSHOP:  The half face piece cartridge type respirator, worn by an employee during the spray painting operation was not stored properly to protect the respirator from damage and contamination.      ABATED DURING THE INSPECTION.

29 CFR 1910.147(c)(6)(i): The employer shall conduct a periodic inspection of the energy control procedure at least annually to ensure that the procedure and the requirements of this standard are being followed.    WORKSHOP:  The employer had not conducted annual and/or periodic reviews and/or inspections of the hazardous energy control procedures to ensure that the employees performing servicing, maintenance and other tasks on equipment, such as (but not limited to) the bandsaw and machinery were following proper procedures and requirements at all times. 29 CFR 1910.215(a)(4): Work rests. On offhand grinding machines, work rests shall be used to support the work. They shall be of rigid construction and designed to be adjustable to compensate for wheel wear. Work rests shall be kept adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch to prevent the work from being jammed between the wheel and the rest, which may cause wheel breakage. The work rest shall be securely clamped after each adjustment. The adjustment shall not be made with the wheel in motion.    WORKSHOP:  The right side work rest of the Craftsman bench grinder was not adjusted to the wheel with an opening of one-eighth (1/8) of an inch.      ABATED DURING THE INSPECTION.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): Exposure adjustment. Safety guards of the types described in Subparagraphs (3) and (4) of this paragraph, where the operator stands in front of the opening, shall be constructed so that the peripheral protecting member can be adjusted to the constantly decreasing diameter of the wheel. The maximum angular exposure above the horizontal plane of the wheel spindle as specified in paragraphs (b)(3) and (4) of this section shall never be exceeded, and the distance between the wheel periphery and the adjustable tongue or the end of the peripheral member at the top shall never exceed one-fourth inch. (See Figures O-18, O-19, O-20, O-21, O-22, and O-23.)  WORKSHOP:  The right and left abrasive wheels of the Craftsman abrasive grinder were not equipped with tongue guards.         ABATED DURING THE INSPECTION.
