OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard.  a.  At the facility, on or about 07/21/14:  Employee operating a two post, Triumph automotive lift on which the vertical safety locks were inoperative.  Additionally, the employer had not maintained records of each periodic lift inspection performed.    Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to:   Ensure automotive lifts  are operated in accordance with the Automotive Lift Institute, Inc. standard for automotive lifts, Paragraph 4.4.2 which states; The operator shall use all applicable safety features provided on the automotive lift, and operate the lift in accordance with the instructions furnished by the manufacturer.  Additionally, Ensure all written documentation generated during periodic lift inspections are maintained in accordance with Paragraph 5.4 which states; A record of each periodic inspection shall be prepared and maintained noting the observations and findings of all points of inspection recommended by the manufacturer as well as subsequent repairs and replacements accomplished.    Abatement certification must be submitted for this item.
