OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being struck by the load should the overhead hoist or bridge crane system fail:  a)  Plant 1, Press Alley, on or about 8/5/14:  A 500 lb. P & H hoist was not provided with a safety latch on the lifting hook and the beam it was attached to had no rated load markings.  b)  Plant 1, Press Alley, on or about 8/5/14:  A beam with a one ton chain hoist attached had no rated load markings.  c)  Plant 2, White Bone Dept., on or about 8/5/14:   Two beams each with a 1/2 ton electric hoist attached had no rated load markings.  Among other methods, several feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct these hazards are to:  1.  Install new safety latches on the lifting hooks in accordance with ANSI B30.16 Section 16-1.2.9.  2.  Mark the appropriate rated load markings on the beams.  Abatement certification must be submitted for these items.
