Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to pinch-point and struck-by hazards.  The employer did not ensure that safety interlocks to access doors of the Timesaver Model 252-31C wide-belt sanding machine were functional and shut down the machine when opened. Employees were exposed to pinch-point and struck-by hazards during times when the interior of the machine was accessed to track/jog the sanding belts.  Among other methods, some feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard may include but are not limited to the following:  1. Install functioning magnetic relays on the doors of the sanding machine thereby ensuring the interlocks are functioning.  2. Perform weekly and monthly checks of the Safety System as recommended in Section 30 and Section 31 of the Timesavers Operating Manual.
