OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees: 1) On October 9, 2014, and at prior times, the employer did not ensure that employees were protected from crushing hazards while working underneath vehicles that were elevated on automotive lifts in the following circumstances: a) The employer did not ensure that employees lowered the lift to the locking mechanisms when removing wheels from elevated automobiles. b) Lifts were not periodically inspected by qualified inspectors at least annually to ensure that they were properly maintained and functioning. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate the hazard would be to implement the guidelines of the American National Standard for Automotive Lifts- Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance.
