29 CFR 1910.303(b)(6): Deteriorating agents. Unless identified for use in the operating environment, no conductors or equipment shall be located in damp or wet locations; where exposed to gases, fumes, vapors, liquids, or other agents that have a deteriorating effect on the conductors or equipment; or where exposed to excessive temperatures: (A) On October 09, 2014, in the cooking and prep areas of the facility, employees were exposed to serious electrical related injuries, in that the outer jacket of the flexible power cord to the cooking timer unit had been damaged and compromised due to the deteriorating effect of the extreme heat temperatures of the surrounding cooking area. As a result, in April-May 2014, one employee received an electrical shock while placing a metal frying basket onto an energized metal shelf unit where the defective electrical cord has been affixed to. The employee was taken to a local area medical facility for treatment. Abatement certification is required for this item; use the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET for this purpose.
