29 CFR 1926.300(a): All hand and power tools and similar equipment, whether furnished by the employer or employee, were not maintained in a safe condition: a.) Norfolk Naval Base, Bachelors Quarters: On or about 10/17/14, the employer did not furnish the Whiteman Power Trowel Model #J36D2 in a safe condition, in that a cover was not provided over the hole in the ON/OFF power control box thereby potentially exposing employees to an electrical shock hazard. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.

29 CFR 1926.300(b)(5): Fan blade guards had openings larger than one-half inch (1.27 cm): a.) Norfolk Naval Base, Bachelors Quarters, Fourth Floor Section C-2: On or about 10/17/14, the back guard to the UtiliTech Pro, MD#SFDC2-600T portable fan had four screws missing that created a gap approximately 1.5" between the blade housing and guard exposing employees to a potential laceration hazard. Abatement certification required within 10 days after abatement date. The certification shall include a statement that abatement is complete, date and method of abatement, and states employees and their representatives were informed of this abatement.
