29 CFR 1960.8(a): The Agency head did not furnish employment and a place of employment to each employee that were free from recognized hazards that caused or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm: a) Building 810 Metal Shop, where the I-beam supporting the Quick Lift hoist was not marked with the load rating. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to have the support structure (I-beam) to which each hoist is installed, load rated to ensure it is at least equal to that of the hoist in accordance with Paragraph 16-1.3.2 of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) B 30.16-1998, Overhead Hoists Disclaimers: 1. You are not limited to the abatement methods suggested above. 2. The methods explained are general and may not be effective in all cases. 3. The employer is responsible for selecting and carrying out an appropriate method. The U.S. Department of Army was previously cited for a violation of this standard which was contained in OSHA inspection no. 711198, citation no. 2, item no.6, issued on November 14, 2012 with respect to a workplace at Yakima, WA.
