29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(2)(i): Engineering and work practice controls were not used to eliminate or minimize employees exposure    (a) On or about October 2014, in this ophthalmologist office, for ophthalmic technicians using their hands to remove used medical instruments from the containers of detergent, that they had been placed in after use, in the exam rooms. The instruments were being removed from the containers by hand so they could be manually cleaned in the sinks. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that a pair of forceps be used to handle used medical instruments rather than picking them up by hand to prevent sharp injuries and sticks.
