29 CFR 1910.132(d)(1): The employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards are present, or are likely to be present, which necessitate the use of personal protective equipment (PPE): (a)Great Plains Moving and Storage at 4655 Geneva Street, Denver, CO 80238: On and before February 19th, 2015, the employer did not assess the workplace to determine if hazards were present that would require the use of PPE. Hazards present included crushing hazards from moving heavy items such as pianos and refrigerators (foot protection), splinters to the hands from removing wood pallets and crates (leather gloves), and chemical hazards for the maintenance employee when touching up damaged furniture (nitrile gloves). The conditions exposed employees to the potential for physical injuries. Abatement note: 29 CFR 1910.132(d)(2) provides that the employer is expected to verify that a PPE hazard assessment has been conducted through a written certification.

The condition exposed employees to a crushing hazard with foot injuries. Abatement note: 29 CFR 1910.132(h)(2) provides that the employer is not required to pay for non-specialty safety-toe protective footwear (including steel-toe shoes and boots) provided that the employer permits such items to be worn off of the job-site.
