OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a struck-by hazard: a) This violation occurred on or about February 12, 2015 when employees performing compressed air leak tests on a water piping system under pressure were exposed to a struck-by hazard from the sudden release of energy created by the compressed air; b) This violation occurred on or about February 12, 2015 when employees working in areas where compressed air leak testing was being performed on a water piping system under pressure were exposed to a struck-by hazard from the sudden release of energy created by the compressed air; Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to ensure employees perform leak testing procedures in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.9-2011 Building Services Piping.
