29 CFR 1910.212(a)(3)(ii): The point of operation of machines whose operation exposes an employee to injury, shall be guarded. The guarding device shall be in conformity with any appropriate standards therefor, or, in the absence of applicable specific standards, shall be so designed and constructed as to prevent the operator from having any part of his body in the danger zone during the operating cycle. a. At the workplace, in the case goods department, the operation of cutting small wood trim pieces for furniture using a miter saw required the operator's hand to be in the danger zone while securing the wood piece by hand, thereby exposing employees to an amputation hazard. On or about March 10, 2015, an employee suffered an amputation while performing the operation of cutting feet for dressers with a miter saw.
