29 CFR 1910.215(a)(4): Work rest(s) on grinding machinery were not adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one eighth inch: The employer does not ensure that the work rests on grinding machinery is adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch. This violation was observed on or about April 2, 2015, located in the compressor valve repair area where an employee was exposed to struck-by and caught-in hazards when using a Baldor floor grinder (SN: W3-88) to sharpen tools with a work rest greater than 1/8 inch from the abrasive wheel. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that the work rests on grinding machinery is adjusted closely to the wheel with a maximum opening of one-eighth inch.

29 CFR 1910.215(b)(9): The distance between the abrasive wheel periphery(s) and the adjustable tongue or the end of the safety guard peripheral member at the top exceeded one fourth inch: The employer does not ensure that the distance between the abrasive wheel periphery and the adjustable tongue guards do not exceed one-fourth inch. a) This violation was observed on or about April 2, 2015, located in the compressor valve repair area where an employee was exposed to struck-by and caught-in hazards when using a Baldor floor grinder (SN: W3-88) to sharpen tools without tongue guards. b) This violation was observed on or about April 2, 2015, located in the aftermarket repair area where an employee was exposed to struck-by and caught-in hazards when using a Baldor floor grinder (SN: W0208132315) to sharpen tools with a tongue guard greater than 1/4 inch from the abrasive wheel. Pursuant to 29 C.F.R. 1903.19, within ten (10) calendar days of the abatement date, the employer must submit documentation showing that it is in compliance with the standard, including describing the steps that it is taking to ensure that the distance between the abrasive wheel periphery and the adjustable tongue guards do not exceed one-fourth inch.
