29 CFR 1910.22(b)(1): Where mechanical handling equipment is used, sufficient safe clearances shall be allowed for aisles, at loading docks, through doorways and wherever turns or passage must be made. Aisles and passageways shall be kept clear and in good repairs, with no obstruction across or in aisles that could create a hazard. a. South East- Red Zone/AFSM 100 and Manual/Aisle # 26 - On or about April 7, 2015, the working floor behind a mail sorter machine was not maintained free from protruding surfaces (wooden plank). Employees were thereby exposed to trips and falls.

29 CFR 1910.176(a): Use of mechanical equipment. Where mechanical handling equipment is used, sufficient safe clearances shall be allowed for aisles, at loading docks, through doorways and wherever turns or passage must be made. Aisles and passageways shall be kept clear and in good repair, with no obstruction across or in aisles that could create a hazard. Permanent aisles and passageways shall be appropriately marked. a. Red Zone/AFSM - 100 - and Manual/DBCS (Delivery Bar Code Sorter) # 31 Area - On or about April 7, 2015, the floor's markings for aisles and passageways were faded and/or not visible. Employees were thereby exposed to struck - by hazards from moving material handling equipment. b. Green Zone/Automation/Staging Eastside Center # 17 C Area - On or about April 7, 2015, the floor's markings of permanent aisles for storing carts with recycling materials were faded and/or not visible. Employees were thereby exposed to struck - by hazards from moving material handling equipment. c. Red Zone/South East Section/Manual Letter Cases Area- On or about April 7, 2015, the floor's markings of permanent aisles for employees sorting mail were faded and/or not visible. Employees were thereby exposed to struck -by hazards from moving material handling equipment.
