29 CFR 1926.651(h)(1): Employees were working in excavations in which there was accumulated water and adequate precautions had not been taken to protect employees against the hazards posed by water accumulation. a) On or about March 31, 2015 and at times prior thereto: An employee was working in a trench performing water pipe repair to a pipe that had burst overnight and water had accumulated in the trench. Adequate precautions had not been made to protect the employee. Abatement certification AND supporting documentation IS required for this item. * The precautions necessary to protect employees adequately vary with each situation, but could include special support or shield systems to protect from cave-ins, water removal to control the level of accumulating water, or use of a safety harness and lifeline.
