29 CFR 1926.501(b)(1): Each employee on a walking/working surface (horizontal and vertical surface) with an unprotected side or edge which is 6 feet (1.8 m) or more above a lower level was not protected from falling by the use of guardrail systems, safety net systems, or personal fall arrest systems: a) Memorial Bridge Rotary West Springfield, MA: On or about May 1, 2015, an employee was assisting in the pumping of concrete into the overpass abutment while standing on an open sided section of the bridge with no fall protection more than 14 feet above the roadway below. SPS New England, Inc. was previously cited for a violation of an equivalent standard 29 CFR 1926.501 B (4) (ii) which was contained in OSHA inspection number 313209348, citation number 1, item number 3 and was affirmed as a final order on May 2, 2011with respect to a workplace located at Turners Falls- Gill Bridge Montague, MA.
