29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employee(s) to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. (a) Site wide - On or about April 28, 2015 employee was stuck by a hidden sharps while moving an inmate's personal belongings in a housing unit and the employer did not select and require corrections officers to use puncture and cut resistant gloves while conducting searches, pat downs and handling of inmates belongings with their hands where employees may be stuck and receive puncture wounds from potentially blood-contaminated hidden sharps such as tattoo needles, razor blades and homemade weapons.

29 CFR 1910.1030(d)(3)(i): When there was occupational exposure, the employer did not provide, at no cost to the employee, appropriate personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, gloves, gowns, laboratory coats, face shields, masks, eye protection, and mouthpieces, resuscitation bags, pocket masks, or other ventilation devices: (a) Site wide - On or about April 28, 2015 employee was struck by a hidden sharps while moving an inmate's personal belongings in a housing unit and the employer did not provide at no cost to employees puncture resistant gloves while conducting searches, pat downs and handling of inmates belongings with their hands where employees may be stuck and receive punctured wounds from potentially blood-contaminated hidden sharps such as tattoo needles, razor blades and homemade weapons.
