Employees were exposed to a respiratory inhalation hazard.

29 CFR 1910.1026(c): Employees were exposed to an airborne concentration of chromium (VI) which exceeded 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air, as an 8-hour time-weighted average: This violation occurred in hangar 159, where the employer did not ensure that employees' exposures to chromium (VI) did not exceed 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air, as an eight-hour time-weighted average. a) An employee performing grinding operations on an aircraft was exposed to chromium (VI) at an eight-hour time-weighted average of 8.3 micrograms per cubic meter of air, approximately 1.6 times 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air. Sampling was performed for 148 minutes. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled time of 332 minutes. b) An employee performing grinding operations on an aircraft was exposed to chromium (VI) at an eight-hour time-weighted average of 45 micrograms per cubic meter of air, approximately 9 times 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air. Sampling was performed for 157 minutes. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled time of 323 minutes. c) An employee performing grinding operations on a aircraft was exposed to chromium (VI) at an eight-hour time-weighted average of 32.6 micrograms per cubic meter of air, approximately 6.5 times 5 micrograms per cubic meter of air. Sampling was performed for 172 minutes. Zero exposure was assumed for the unsampled time of 308 minutes.
