29 CFR 1910.138(a): The employer did not select and require employees to use appropriate hand protection when employees' hands were exposed to hazards such as those from skin absorption of harmful substances; severe cuts or lacerations; severe abrasion; punctures; chemical burns; thermal burns; and harmful temperature extremes. a) Allenwood Medium Facility, the employer did not select and require correctional officers to use gloves with puncture resistant qualities that effectively protected them from skin puncture, cuts and abrasion, which resulted from contact with potentially blood contaminated sharps, including tattoo needles, during pat down and search activities , on or about July 23, 2015. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED The U.S. Department of Justice was previously cited for a violation of this Occupational Safety and Health Administration standard or its equivalent standard which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 962553, Citation Number 1, Item 4a issued on July 18, 2014, with respect to a workplace located at Welch, WV.
