OSH ACT of 1970 Section (5)(a)(1): The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of fire and explosion:    a/ Woodline Works/New Brunswick NJ Site: Production Area. The Dustek dust collection system attached to machinery including but not limited to approx. 8 Cutoff Saws and a 4 Head Molder Machine were used with nonconductive flexible hoses with metal coils. Employees are exposed to fire and explosion hazard from the ignition of combustible dust due to the potential of static electricity created by the air flow through nonconductive ducts/hoses during woodworking operations.    1/ Nonconductive ducts/hoses made of PVC with metal coil are used.   2/ Documentation to confirm that all of the nonconductive ducts/hoses were bonded and grounded were not provided.  3/ Visual checks were performed by the employer and employees to determine bonding and grounding in lieu of approved testing equipment to ensure the ground was continuous throughout the ducts/hoses.    Among other methods, a feasible method to correct this hazard would be to follow the requirements outlined in the National Fire Protection Association document NFPA 66A Prevention of Fires and Explosions in Wood Processing Facilities (2012 edition).  Specifically, Section 8.2.2.2 Dust Systems, states that dust collection system ductwork shall be metallic and PVC shall not be permitted.     Observed on/or about 08/04/2015.

The electrical box is rated 600 Volts  Heavy Duty and Double Insulated.     2/ Combustible dust was cleaned up with unclassified tools including but not limited to a floor pusher, a shovel, brushing and a broom.    Means were not provided to prevent a fire/explosion hazard, in that, the machinery/equipment and/or wiring used in the Class II combustible locations were not approved for the Class II Division II locations.    Observed  on/or about 08/04/2015.
