29 CFR 1926.850(a): Prior to permitting employees to start demolition operations, an engineering survey was not made, by a competent person, of the structure to determine the condition of the framing, floors, and walls, and possibility of unplanned collapse of any portion of the structure. a) 20 Highland Avenue, Jersey City, NJ Workers performed cleaning operations in a building with structures that had been demolished including a front wall and a stairway, as well as a two story bay window that may have been inadequately shored. Before permitting employees to start demolition operations and work in a building that could partially collapse, an engineering survey was not made, by a competent person, of the structure to determine the condition of the framing, floors, walls, and bay window, and possibility of unplanned collapse of any portion of the structure.
